A friend who&#039;s computer I recently worked on suddenly begin having issues yesterday with running very slow and displaying &#039;missing file&#039; messages.

Sure enough, a check of the event log revealed a slew of the following messages: 

&#039; The device, \Device\Harddisk0\D. has a bad block&#039;

guess it&#039;s time to get a new hard drive......</description>

		<description>I can&#039;t for the life of my fathom why Windows (heck, other OS&#039;s probably aren&#039;t much better) doesn&#039;t report perhaps the most serious hardware fault out there - one of the few it can actually detect!
Sure, a dodgy PSU or graphics card might put your PC out of commission until replaced, but for the majority of people with no backup routine and a single HDD, an early warning would be a godsend before they lose their personal data!</description>
